Dr. Martin Habekost, a professor with Ryerson University's Graphic Communications Management program, has been elected as one of the new board members for the Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA). The association is dedicated to furthering print-technology research, with more than 300 individual members and 15 active student chapters worldwide.

Habekost will serve as TAGA's Vice President of Education until 2013, along with new board members Alexandra Pekarovicova from Western Michigan University and John Sweeney from FineEye Color Solutions. Continuing on with the board are: Don Duncan, Wikoff Color; Chuck Gehman, Mimeo.com; David Niles, Sappi Fine Paper; Wandee Poolpol, Eckart America; Hal Stratton, manroland; Liam O辿ara, Clemson University; and Yung-Cheng Hsieh of the National Taiwan University of the Arts

"I am impressed with the level of the presentation and the quality of research taking part in this industry," stated Habekost, in a press release. "I am particularly impressed by student publications being shown. The students are the future of our industry."

This year, Ryerson's student TAGA chapter captured the Helmut Kipphan Cup, for the second time in three years, based on the production of 100-plus-page research publication about emerging printing technologies. Habekost, along with Ryerson professor Jason Lisi, oversaw the efforts of Ryerson student chapter, also known as ryeTAGA.
