Markzware released an upgrade to its preflight software as version 5.7 of FlightCheck Professional and FlightCheck Designer for Macintosh and Windows platforms.
FlightCheck has new enhancements to support Adobe Creative Suite 2, PDF v1.6, Microsoft Windows XP, as well as more comprehensive support for EPS files.
Mitsubishi introduced new SDP Smart Tools to help automate its SDP RIP, covering functions such as PDF creation, preflighting, trapping, imposition and CIP3 connectivity. A key component of the Smart Tools package is the SDP Smart Manager, a client server-based interface that controls the flow of jobs, while Advanced RIP viewer allows users to preview RIPped files at workstations with the integrated viewer, an integrated ROAM soft proofing application. The company also introduced the new DPX Lite platesetting system designed to make plates for duplicator and 2-up portrait presses.
Muller Martini signed an agreement with Kodak which states the Kodak Versamark will provide its D-series continuous inkjet printing systems, the DS9100 or DS6240, to Muller Martini to mount on its new Concepta web offset press to create a hybrid printing system. The new hybrid printing system can produce variable printing at speeds of up to 1,000 feet per minute. Muller Martini also showed the Alprinta that delivers 1,500 forms per minute, while cutoff can be adjusted. The Alprinta features a varnish cassette.
Nipson introduced its new VaryPress 200 running a BOD application at 290 feet per minute, which represents a speed increase of over 25 percent when compared to previous Nipson devices. The system at Print 05 was integrated with Muller Martini’s SigmaLine OnDemand technology, a modular BOD manufacturing system designed for commercial printers, publishers, and book manufacturers.
OneVision launched Asura 7.0 and Solvero 7.0, which are able to import and output PDF 1.6. Solvero, an editing tool for data files in PDF, EPS and Postscript format, has control over any layered content within a file and is able to manipulate so that it is hidden, merged, deleted, assigned or created depending on requirements. Asura is for hot-folder-based control, correction and optimization of files.
Presstek announced what it called “controlled availability” of its new Aurora chemistry-free thermal plates rated for run lengths up to 50,000. Non-proprietary Aurora plates are designed to operate with Creo Trendsetter and Screen PlateRite thermal CTP systems. Presstek also introduced the Vector TX52, a 2-page chemistry-free CTP system. Presstek demonstrated the new Facet RIP, powered by EFI and supported exclusively by ABDick.
Combining technologies, Roland DGA introduced the Packaging Prototyping System for producing professional packaging prototypes using 3D scanning and milling technologies, including the LPX-1200 3D laser scanner, MDX-40 3D milling machine, SOLJET™ PRO II V SC-545EX 54”-wide integrated printer/cutter and standard vacuum forming equipment.
Sun’s commercial ink division, Kohl & Madden, released new Liberty inks for commercial sheetfed and folding carton applications. The VOC-free technology allows inks to stay open on press without drying for days, while the ink will dry almost instantaneously once printed on substrate.
Videk introduced the Print Verification System (PVS) that is able to read both sides of a 2-up duplex statement at high speeds. Multiple “regions of interest” are defined on both sides of each document. The PVS was demonstrated at Print 05 on IBM’s new Infoprint 4100 device.
Xerox released its Nuvera 144 and Nuvera 144 MX digital production systems, which – at 144 pages per minute – are 20 percent faster than the previous Nuvera models. Nuvera is a black and white digital device with 4,800 x 600 dots per inch resolution.
XMPie expanded the integration between version 2.5 of its PersonalEffect software and the Xerox FreeFlow Digital Workflow Collection. PersonalEffect 2.5 now supports FreeFlow VI Containers for PPML, PS, PDF, and VIPP print formats. XMPie customers can now leverage JDF compliant FreeFlow components. XMPie users can now submit optimized Postscript or PDF jobs directly from uProduce to the FreeFlow core management products. User can now launch FreeFlow Print Manager and FreeFlow Output Manager client software directly from within XMPie's production dashboard (uProduce). |
