The Printing Industries of America (PIA) has announced the winners of this year’s InterTech Technology Awards program. The awards are meant to recognize innovative technologies that are expected to advance the graphic communications industry. The program began in 1978 and its organizers claim more than 80 percent of the recipients go on to find commercial success in the market.
An independent panel of judges considered this year’s entries, which span all aspects of print production. Twelve technologies were selected to receive this years awards:

Pre-production software aimed at saving time and reducing waste in digital finishing systems

A service which analyzes and compares the performance of printing operations around the world using similar equipment
Keen MIS and Web-to-Print
A cloud-based management and web storefront solution
Kodak NexPress Red Fluorescing Solution
A security printing option for NexPress machines that creates print only visible when illuminated through UV light
QuadTech Color Control and Web Inspection System with AccuCam
A closed-loop colour management system for newspaper printers using CIELAB-based control
Sun Chemical SunPak LMQ
A set of packaging inks with low migration properties
Technique Business Systems iTechnique
A mobile MIS system for the Apple iOS platform
Utopia Digital Technologies Avatrex Transportable Imaging
A transportable substrate which allows print to be placed on uneven surfaces such as clothing, without the use of dye sublimation
Xeikon X-800 VariLane
An imposition plug-in which allows the production of labels of different sizes in the same run, saving a claimed 30 percent in time and waste
X-Rite i1Pro 2
A spectrophotometer which features three standard measurement conditions and enhanced optical brightener compensation
The awards will be formally presented at the 2012 Premier Print Awards Gala in Chicago this October at Graph Expo.
