Stanpac Installs Heidelberg XL 106 UV
Stanpac Inc.’s Smithville, Ontario, facility is now running a new full UV Heidelberg Speedmaster XL-106-6+L, which is described as a first of its kind in Canada.
Replacing Stanpac’s older Speedmaster CD-102 machine, the new UV-based Speedmaster XL-106-6+L is capable of curing in high gloss at 18,000 impressions per hour. Stanpac’s new Speedmaster XL-106 is equipped with several packaging features, such as Heidelberg’s Elevation Kit, as well as automatic non-stop operation in feeder and delivery, and Inpress Control.
Stanpac specializes in the cradle-to-grave production of ice-cream containers. The company also produces work for dairy, food and bottle packaging. Founded in 1949, Stanpac was a division of a milk bottle cap manufacturer and then purchased by two employees in 1970.
“We are vertically integrated,” stated Murray Bain, Vice President of Marketing with Stanpac, when discussing the new Heidelberg install. “We don’t grow our own trees or make paperboard, but we control and produce the entire container process, from creative design through prepress, platemaking, sheeting to printing, die-cutting, tube-winding, lid assembly, cup forming and finally onto the injection molding process.
“Our customers have challenges that are a little different than those of average folding carton,” continued Bain. “We are able to be their partner in solving these challenges which can include, quick turnaround, small runs for promotions, and critical shipments delivered by our own transportation company. The company also has several other packaging divisions including glass milk bottles for dairies and a glass container printing division.”
With more than 5.5 million impressions already put on the new press, Stanpac states that it has been able to reduce make-readies by 50 percent. Today, the company holds 350 employees across both its Smithville and Texas locations.
