Imprimerie Reflet Ltee., a trade printing operation based in Montreal, has installed a new five-colour Ryobi 925 integrated with an LED-UV curing system, which is the first such press to be installed in North America.

The 36-inch, 8-up press, purchased through KBR Graphics, was installed in late November 2013. Ryobi and Panasonic jointly developed the LED-UV technology that is integrated with the sheetfed press. It allows Imprimerie Reflet to print on range of substrates from lightweight paper to thicker materials like folding carton and synthetics. The Ryobi 925 reaches a top speed of 16,200 sheets per hour.

“We believe this new Ryobi press redefines the economics of offset printing,” stated Pierre Methot, co-owner of Imprimerie Reflet. Methot founded the company with co-owner Real Daviau back in 1995. "It opens up lucrative new markets and eliminates many of the traditional pain points and costs associated with producing high-quality print.”

With 20 full-time staff members, Imprimerie Reflet’s new Ryobi 925 press features semi-automatic plate loading, ink volume setter, Ryobi PCS-G Printing Control System, auto cleaning devices and the press maker’s SMART Makeready function. The press also incorporates an impression pressure preset, a paper size preset, and Ryobi’s PDS-E print density control and monitoring system.

KBR Graphics also supplied Imprimerie Reflet with a Pamarco Global Graphics Sentinel Ink Management System, which is an automatic cartridge-based ink dispensing system to track ink usage. KBR also supplied the Montreal printer with a Cron CTP system, specially configured by the manufacturer to meet Imprimerie Reflet’s production requirements.

Ryobi claims this LED-UV curing system can cut energy usage by up to 80 percent relative to conventional UV systems. Ryobi also states that it has more than 90 worldwide installations of its LED-UV equipped presses, available for the company’s 2-, 6- and 8-up presses.
