Three weeks after naming Richard Garneau as President and CEO, AbitibiBowater yesterday introduced its new executive team. The Montreal-based newsprint giant emerged from bankruptcy protection in mid-December 2010, in both the United States and Canada.
“The executive team we have put in place represents an excellent blend of proven experience and fresh thinking. I look forward to working with the team to further improve AbitibiBowater’s operational efficiencies and financial flexibility, while offering a broad mix of quality products to our customers globally,” stated Garneau. “We believe that with the support of all company employees, we can deliver on our commitment to further reduce costs and enhance our competitiveness.”
In addition to Garneau, AbitibiBowater’s executive team will now include Alain Boivin, who becomes Senior VP, Pulp and Paper Operations. Boivin most recently served as VP of Mill Operations, Central Region, at Smurfit-Stone Container. He will assume his new responsibilities at AbitibiBowater on March 7, 2011.
The remaining executive-team members have been promoted within AbitibiBowater or maintain their current positions with the company, including: David Spraley, Senior VP, Pulp and Paper Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality; Alain Grandmont, who becomes Senior VP, Human Resources and Public Affairs; William Harvey, Senior VP and Chief Financial Officer; John Lafave, Senior VP, Pulp and Paper Sales and Marketing; Yves Laflamme, Senior VP, Wood Products, Global Supply Chain and Information Technology; and Jacques Vachon, Senior VP and Chief Legal Officer.
