CNG’s Kelly/Spicers acquires American Packaging

July 29, 2020  By PrintAction Staff

Central National Gottesman Inc. (CNG) has announced that its Kelly/Spicers division has acquired Northern California’s American Packaging, furthering its packaging business throughout the western United States.

American Packaging was founded in 1976 and is one of the region’s leading independent packaging distributors, with a portfolio in markets such as medical devices, food processing, pharmaceutical and technology products. It also has an expertise in packaging equipment, including sales, servicing, maintenance and line integration design.

This acquisition strengthens Kelly/Spicers’ growing industrial and retail packaging business, which is anchored by Southern California’s Premiere Packaging Industries (PPI).

“Our North American distribution business continues to be focused on accelerating our growth and capabilities within the packaging industry,” said Andrew Wallach, CNG president and CEO. “The addition of American Packaging, consistent with our strategy, will provide a broader range of packaging products and solutions to our new and existing customers.”

American Packaging’s president, Kaye Leedham Herning, will continue on in the role following the acquisition. The business, which will be renamed Kelly/Spicers later this year, will continue to operate out of its 72,000-square-foot San Leandro warehouse, located between Silicon Valley and Napa Valley.

“We look forward to welcoming the American Packaging team to Kelly/Spicers, bringing their packaging expertise and deep Northern California market knowledge,” said Kelly/Spicers president Jan Gottesman. “We are also enthusiastic about sharing our organization’s exceptional supply base and expanded reach in North America with American Packaging customers.”
