FASTSIGNS Franchise Invests in Kongsberg

October 15, 2013  By

Burlington’s FASTSIGNS location in Ontario, described as Canada’s top revenue-producing location within the franchise network, has expended its application range with the edition of a Kongsberg XN24 cutting table from Esko.

The Kongsberg XN24, with capabilities to cut a variety of substrates, including corrugated and solid boards, folding carton, wood and plastics, was actually installed back in December 2012.

“Prior to the Kongsberg XN24 table, we used a router that wasn’t able to cut through all the materials that we can now,” stated Diane Henderson, President of the Burlington FASTSIGNS unit. “And, the Kongsberg table is more efficient because we don’t spend a lot of time changing tools. ”

Henderson continues to note that it used to take operators around 20 minutes to change over tools, which has now been greatly reduced, as well as the machine’s high-power milling spindle to better handle harder application materials like wood.

“We also really like the software, i-cut Layout and ArtiosCAD,” stated Henderson. ”i-cut Layout saves us so much time. One client orders signs every week – 50 signs one week and 200 the next, in different sizes – and they can be double-sided. We use i-cut Layout to step and repeat, and set up the print and cut files. It takes one-quarter of the time to set up a double-sided job.”

The full FASTSIGNS franchise network across several countries has more than 530 independently owned and operation units. The Burlington unit, established in 1996, is noted by the company as its top Canadian revenue producer. The shop runs three 6-colour roll-to-roll printers as well as one UV flatbed, one thermal printer for spot colour decals, and one laser engraver.
