Hemlock Printers is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, recognizing a half-century of growth to become one of Canada’s most recognized printing companies.

Founded in 1968 by Dick Kouwenhoven, and joined soon after by his brother John, the two built the
business on a foundation of integrity, craftsmanship, and technical innovation. Over five decades, Hemlock says it has continued to navigate numerous advancements in technology while focusing on delivering added-value to customers.

Gathering with the Hemlock team at a recent BBQ celebration, President and COO Richard Kouwenhoven extended appreciation to all staff, past and present, who have helped Hemlock reach this significant milestone. He explained the entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to continual innovation lives on today.

“Our remarkable team continues to display the necessary ingredients for success. We are a collaborative and supportive community. We take pride in the results of our work and we continue to embrace new technologies. The teamwork we demonstrate each day is something we can all be very proud of,” he said.

Additional 50th anniversary plans include a Staff Family Day in September 2018, and an Open House Event in March 2019, inviting customers, suppliers and community friends to visit Hemlock’s recently renovated Burnaby facility.

Also announced was the company’s most recent investment in new press technology. January 2019 will
see the installation of a Heidelberg XL 106 8-colour press, equipped with UV LED technology.

“This press incorporates major advancements in productivity and quality control,” says SVP of
Manufacturing Jeff Taylor. “It is an exciting next step for our company, providing clients with
unparalleled capabilities and our talented press crews with new opportunities for growth and career
development.”
