Ontario Lieutenant Governor visits XRCC

On May 4, Ontario Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell visited the Xerox Research Centre of Canada’s innovation hub in Mississauga, Ont., which aims to help foster Canadian innovation and advanced materials manufacturing breakthroughs.

Since 2013, the XRCC has been offering its research, development and engineering services to third parties, leading to the establishment of an innovation hub that provides start-ups and incubators with access to co-located lab space and a 27,000-square-foot engineering pilot plant where they can invent and commercialize new materials.

XRCC’s Ink Formulation team works with the Printed Technology and Applications teams to formulate inks that have the required printing and substrate latitude to address its clients’ target application areas. The Printed Electronics Lab is equipped with piezo inkjet printers (Dimatix, Xerox, PixDro LP50), Optomec Aerosol Jet printers (ultrasonic and pneumatic atomization) and flexographic/gravure proofing presses. The lab’s Aerosol Jet printers have been paired with robotic motion control to enable printing of functional device elements onto conformal surfaces.

Meanwhile, its 3D printing capabilities include equipment for fused deposition modelling (FDM), paste extrusion, stereolithography (SLA), and selective laser sintering (SLS).
