Ricter closes doors after 43 years

January 3, 2019  By PrintAction Staff

After 43 years of service, Ricter Web Printing of Brantford, Ont., closed its operations on December 21.

Established in 1975, Ricter Web Printing was founded as a local newspaper with in-house printing. As the years rolled on, the printing grew and eventually replaced the publishing. Primarily a coldset web printer, the company also maintained a design department, a five-colour sheetfed press, a bindery department and a dedicated shipping company, CST Logistics.

PrintAction has reached out to Ricter Web Printing for comment but has not yet received a reply.

According to the 2017 Brantford industrial directory, the facility has about 100 employees.

On December 7, Rick St. Amand, president of Ricter Web, sent a letter to print customers to inform them of the exposure, The Brantford Expositor reports: “With the ever-changing print industry demands and the steadily declining print work availability in today’s current market climate, we have decided to put our efforts into seeking new opportunities for the future.”

In his letter, St. Amand said that Ricter Web would hand over its current print operations to the Torstar-owned Metroland Media print division, reports The Brantford Expositor.
