Ryerson GCM Set for Job Fair

February 25, 2014  By PrintAction Staff

Ryerson University’s School of Graphic Communications Management (GCM) is ramping up its annual process of helping students find both full-time employment and internship placement within the Canadian printing industry.

GCM has scheduled its annual Job Fair to take place on Thursday, March 6, 2014, in Toronto. Companies from both the commercial-business and technology-supply side of the industry are invited to participate in the event, which is divided into two streams.

The Graduates Job Fair takes place from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and the Intern Job Fair goes from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the same location – The Hub (cafeteria), Podium Building, 1st floor at Ryerson University. GCM is the only degree-granting program in Canada focused on printing and imaging, awarding successful students – focused on a both modern technologies and business skills – with a Bachelor of Technology degree.

Job Fair organizers explain, that in addition to graduates seeking full-time employment, interns are normally also looking for full-time work (40 hours per week) from May to August. The graduation requirement for interns is 420 hours of work; however, most students are interested in working for the duration of the summer. The average pay in previous years has been around $16 per hour.

GCM students complete an internship in the summer between third and fourth year, beginning as early as mid-April. In their third year of studies, students are prepared for internships through a series of classes and briefings. A detailed internship manual is provided to students and employers, while a Ryerson GCM Internship Handbook is available online for more clarification before committing to the program.

Printing companies and technology suppliers looking to participate in the Job Fair or to hire an intern are invited to contact Taras Karpiuk, Departmental Assistant (tkarpiuk@ryerson.ca or 416-979-5050).

Companies can also register directly for the Job Fair on a dedicated Website
