Greg Donais joins EFI as its new Sales Development Manager for Eastern Canada, focusing on EFI’s VUTEk and wide-format-inkjet portfolio. He succeeds Ken Lunn, who is retiring after being with EFI for the past 15 years.

Having previously worked as both a supplier rep and printing-company owner in the inkjet arena, Donais brings a wealth of experience to his new position covering the provinces of Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Donais most recently served as Vice President of Cameron Advertising’s digital division, where he worked from 2010 until January 2015. Donais also previously worked for almost five years as the Managing Director of Schawk Canada’s digital division. He also owned and operated iG3 for a decade.

Chris Raney becomes President of Baumer hhs in Dayton, Ohio, which manufacturers systems for value-added-gluing, camera-verification and quality-assurance systems for a range of industrial sectors like corrugated packaging, folding carton, printing and woodworking.

In addition, Baumer hhs also welcomed Rob Bradshaw to its sales team. Bradshaw will be based in Illinois as the Midwest Sales Manager and will lead the region's sales efforts.

Raney, who most recently served as VP of Packaging for Heidelberg USA Inc., brings over 25 years of relevant industry experience to his new role as President of Baumer hhs. This includes more than 10 years in the folding carton market in North America. He worked for Bobst in various roles in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and in the United States where from June 2002 he was Vice President of the Folding Carton Business Area.

“We welcome Chris’ experience and leadership to the Baumer hhs team,” said Detlef Engling, Managing Director. “In his new role as President, he will provide leadership and guidance to our team. His results-oriented approach and ability to think strategically will help hhs continue to grow profitably, while extending our track record of innovation and exceeding our customers’ demands.”

Brian Gibson has joined Drytac Canada, a manufacturer of adhesive-coated products, in the role of Technical Services Manager. He holds a degree in marketing and sales from Humber College and has more than 25 years of experience in the printing industry.

“Brian excels in technical troubleshooting,” said Mike Wildbore, Vice President of Sales for Drytac Canada. “He will be an excellent resource for our Canadian team, especially with his extensive industry knowledge and background in equipment repair and finishing processes.”

As Technical Services Manager, Gibson will be responsible for technical support and training of Drytac’s line of finishing equipment. Prior to joining Drytac, Gibson worked for Seal as a technical service and application specialist. His industry knowledge spans areas like application training, equipment service support, product management, account management, and sales-force development.

Dr. Doug Edwards becomes Chief Executive Officer of Xaar plc, headquartered in Cambridge, UK, succeeding Ian Dinwoodie, who previously announced plans to retire in 2015. Dinwoodie joined Xaar in 2001 and had served as CEO since 2003.

Xaar primarily develops and manufacturers piezoelectric inkjet print-heads, including technology for applications like ceramic tile decoration, coding, graphics, labeling and packaging.

In March 2014, when Dinwoodie announced his upcoming retirement, Xaar launched its new 1002 GS6 print-head, building from the existing 1001 GS6 product, for UV applications, primarily aimed at the production of labels, laminates, direct-to-shape, packaging and other types of product decoration.

Xaar states the 1002 GS6 print-head (featuring 1,000 nozzles) is designed to jet high-opacity white inks, as well as high-viscosity varnishes, which is enabled by Xaar’s patented TF Technology for ink recirculation and the Hybrid Side-Shooter architecture.

 

Edwards joins Xaar from Eastman Kodak Company, where most recently he served as President, Digital Printing and Enterprise. He has been a member of Kodak’s Executive Board since 2006. Edwards started his career in the UK in a variety of technical roles with Ilford Limited, ICI, Zeneca and International Paper before moving to the United States 14 years ago with Kodak Polychrome Graphics (a former joint venture company between Sun Chemical Corporation and Kodak).

“It is a privilege to be asked to lead Xaar through this next phase of the company's development,” said Edwards, who holds a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD in Conducting Organic Materials from London University. “Excellent progress has been made by the company over the last decade but the future opportunities ahead of the company in the world of digital printing are substantial, and I am pleased to return to the UK to take up this challenge.”


Serge Trajkovich becomes Vice President and Managing Director of PrintLink Canada, which focuses on human resources and professional placement within the printing and packaging industries.
 
Trajkovich has 35 years of experience in the printing industry, including time within pre-media, digital printing and packaging sectors across North America. He has both owned and managed several companies in the Toronto area. His work in packaging covers folding-carton, converting, and flexible processes.

PrintLink operates in both the United States and Canada, specializing in all facets of printing and related industries. This includes providing employers with mentoring, market intelligence and human resource processes.


Al Varney has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Xerox Canada Ltd., succeeding Mandy Shapansky who plans to retire on January 1, 2015.

Varney, a former Vice President of Marketing for Xerox Canada, will lead the Canadian organization after spending the past five years in the United States, where he served as President of Xerox North American Agent Operations and, prior to that, as a Senior Vice President for U.S. Client Operations.

Varney first joined Xerox Canada in 1986 where he has held various positions in sales, marketing and general management. “Xerox is such a well-respected brand in Canada, offering market-leading business processes services and document management technology,” Varney said. “I am excited to be back in Canada to continue Xerox’s growth in the market by working with clients on solutions that support them reaching their own business growth goals.”

Shapansky spent nearly three decades with Xerox Canada, and served as CEO for the past four years. Xerox Canada is headquartered in Toronto.

Danny Ionescu, who has been leading much of Hewlett-Packard’s business development in the Canadian printing market for nearly two decades, has been promoted to lead similar initiatives across the Americas.

Ionescu becomes HP’s Director of Enterprise Business for Graphics in the Americas. The executive had been Vice President of Sales for HP Canada’s graphic arts division since 1994.

In the past few years, Ionescu has been spearheading the introduction of HP Inkjet Web Press systems into the Canadian market, as well as the recently introduced 29-inch HP Indigo 10000 platform and a range of wide-format inkjet developments.

Even with his expanded role for HP, Ionescu will continue to be based out of the Greater Toronto Area.

Udo Panenka, currently Senior VP of Global Sales & Marketing at Esko, is to succeed Carsten Knudsen as President of the Belgium company on January 1, 2015.

Panenka joined Esko in September 2014 from Kollmorgen, which is an operation owned by Danaher Corporation. Danaher purchased Esko in 2011 for approximately €350 million. At Kollmorgen, Panenka most recently served as VP and GM for Industrial Automation in Europe and India. He joined Kollmorgen in 2008.

Back in September 2014, at the same time when Panenka joined Esko, Jon Giardina also came from a Danaher operation to become Esko’s VP for the Americas.

Prior to Danaher, Panenka held sales, marketing and general management positions with ABS Deutschland, RITZ Pumpenfabrik and New Haden Pumps. Panenka has a BA degree in Management from Berufsakademie located in Heidenheim, Germany.

Sean Sawa becomes Director of Sales for Anderson & Vreeland Canada (AVC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Ohio-based Anderson & Vreeland Inc., which distributes and manufactures flexographic prepress materials.

“Sean is a widely respected and driven individual. His can-do attitude is infectious and we are extremely fortunate to now have him on our management team," said Drew Elisius, Executive VP of Anderson & Vreeland Inc.

Sawa joined AVC as Regional Manager, focusing Ontario and Western Canada, in mid-2013, with 18 years of flexography sales experience primarily gained at Williamson Printing Materials. He graduated from George Brown Technical College in Toronto with a Printing Technology degree.

Canadian John Rogers becomes the new Global Executive Director of the Digital Solutions Cooperative for users of HP technology, better known as Dscoop, while Gary Peeling becomes the organization’s new Global Chairman.

Rogers is regarded as one of Canada’s digital-printing pioneers through a career spanning more than 30 years. Rogers began his career at Moore Business Forms, before working with Dave Rogers to start one of Canada’s first digital colour printing companies, called Dots & Pixels Inc., in 1994.

Dots & Pixels was an early adopter of variable data printing and Web-to-print solutions. Rogers was also one of the founders of Dscoop. In his new role, he will provide strategic leadership to the Dscoop boards of directors and management teams in North America, Middle East and Africa, and Asia Pacific and Japan. His responsibilities will include oversight of the organization’s strategy, financials, operations and marketing around the globe.

“I am so excited to be working with an organization I love at a time when it is celebrating its tenth anniversary,” said Rogers. “There is nothing I would rather be doing at this point in my career than working with the visionary individuals and companies involved in Dscoop who are together shaping the future of the industry. We have a great future together, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”

Gary Peeling, Dscoop’s new Global Chairman, is Managing Director at Precision Printing Company Ltd. in the UK, which he has been helping to lead for the past 25 years. Precision Printing works with consumer brands in the photo, greeting card and self-publishing space, while also leveraging litho printing.

“I am pleased to take on this new role in collaboration with John. John is a well-qualified leader who will help us shape the future of our cooperative,” said Gary Peeling. “He has a unique set of experiences that make him the perfect person for the role of Global Executive Director at this point in time.”

Rory Marsoun becomes Vice President of Flexo Business Development for Esko, arguably the world’s largest technology supplier for the packaging sector. Headquartered in Gent, Belgium, Esko, employing around 1300 people worldwide, states its solutions are used in some way in the production of nine out of 10 retail packages.

In his new role, Marsoun will determine the direction of the flexo business in North America, acting as a liaison with the company's product development staff in Germany. He will also be involved with strategic and marketing direction and supporting the North American sales staff.

Most recently, Marsoun was Director, Software Training Deployment, Americas, managing the team of experts that installs Esko software and flexo products, and trains new users.

Previously, he was Manager, Flexo Services, Americas, during the company’s introductions of HD Flexo and Full HD Flexo, Esko Digital Flexo Systems, and CDI imaging systems. Marsoun joined Esko as a Flexo Specialist from Clemson University where he was a lecturer and research associate.

“Rory has a depth of industry and research experience in flexo plate imaging and printing, a background that has already served Esko very well, and which will continue to be of tremendous value to our customers,” stated Thomas Klein, Esko Vice President, Flexo Business.


 

Kenneth Garner on January 12, 2014, is to become the CEO of the National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL), which earlier this year had merged with two other prominent printing associations. He succeeds Joseph Truncale, who spent 30 years with the NAPL, is set to become CEO of the Public Relations Society of America in New York City.

Earlier this year, the NAPL merged with the Association of Marketing Service Providers and National Association of Quick Printers to create what the new partners refer to AMSP/NAPL/NAQP.

“While we are sad to see Joe go, we are delighted for him and know he will do well in his new organization,” said Tom Duchene, Chairman of AMSP/NAPL/NAQP. “I speak for the entire Board of Trustees in offering my thanks for his dedicated leadership over the last 12 years.” Duchene continued to express confidence for the group’s incoming CEO, stating Garner “takes the helm at this most important time in the history of our combined association.”

Garner became CEO of the Association of Marketing Service Providers (AMSP) in late 2008, leading AMSP through a significant rebrand from its former name of Mailing and Fulfillment Service Association (MFSA). A statement from the newly merged association states it is embarking on a similar path.

“As former President and CEO of AMSP, a former chairman of NAPL, and former president of a major printing and mailing company, Ken is uniquely positioned to lead our association as we continue to bring together our resources in the service of all our members,” said Duchene.

Garner was previously President of United Litho, a Virginian heatset web magazine printing company, where also served as VP of Operations and VP of Sales and Marketing. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service – for which he once testified at a Congressional hearing.

He has served as Chairman of the Board for the NAPL, as well as the Graphic Arts Education & Research Foundation, Printing Industries of America’s Executive Development Program, and the Environmental Conservation Board. Garner is a member of the Walter E. Soderstrom Society.

“We are well along on the process of developing a new name and identity that will build on the important legacy of each of the three associations while moving the combined organization in a bold new direction,” said Garner. “I have known Joe for more than 20 years and he set a high standard for executive performance…”

Truncale first joined the NAPL in December 1984 as Director of Member Relations. He became NAPL Executive VP in 1991, and President and CEO in 2002.

Agfa Graphics has added two managers to its Canadian group based out of Mississauga, Ontario, which is one of the parent company's three primary inkjet systems manufacturing facilities.

Agfa Graphics Canada in March unveiled a revamped demonstration centre in its 160,000-square-foot Mississauga plant, which includes the company’s recently released Jeti Titan S and HS systems.

Steve Fournier, formerly Business Development Manager at Unisource, joins Agfa Graphics as National Business Manager, Media and Applications. Fournier, who is rejoining Agfa after 10 years, brings experience in both the sign and display sector and commercial printing.

Charbel Najem joins Agfa Graphics as an Account Manager. Charbel previously served as Business Development Manager at Access Imaging, a distributor of large-format systems and related technologies. He also worked at Hewlett Packard Canada as Partner Business Manager.

"Steve and Charbel are great additions to the Agfa team and we are very excited to have them on board as part of our growing inkjet business in Canada,” said Ruben Silva, Managing Director of Agfa Graphics Canada.




Esko yesterday announced two executive appointments with Udo Panenka becoming Senior Vice President Sales and Jon Giardina joining the company as Vice President Americas. Both previously held executive roles at businesses owned by Danaher, Esko’s parent company.

In his new role as Senior Vice President, Panenka has responsibility for the global Esko sales, service and marketing organization. He replaces Christian Korte, who is leaving Esko. Prior to joining Esko, Panenka was Vice President and General Manager for Kollmorgen’s Industrial Automation Business for Europe and India.

Since joining Danaher in 2008, Panenka has held a number of other executive positions within the company. Prior to Danaher, he held sales, marketing and general management positions with ABS Deutschland, RITZ Pumpenfabrik and New Haden Pumps. Panenka has a BA degree in Management from Berufsakademie located in Heidenheim, Germany.

As Vice President Americas, Giardina will lead the Esko organizations in North and Latin America. Most recently Giardina was Vice President and General Manager for Danaher’s Dynapar and West/PMA businesses. He joined Danaher in 2006 and has filled sales, marketing and general management roles over the past eight years.

Giardina has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, as well as a MA degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Giardina replaces Tony Wiley, who previously managed Esko’s business in the Americas.


Color-Logic of West Chester, Ohio, has appointed Parker MacDonald as its sales representative for Eastern Canada, including Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes.

Color-Logic is the developer of the Process Metallic Color System, which is developed for brand managers, product managers, corporations and advertising agencies. The technology, which applies decorative effects into branded products and associated collateral, is compatible with offset, inkjet, flexography, toner, screen-printing, and gravure processes.
 
“Parker MacDonald brings Color-Logic extensive experience in the Canadian graphic arts market, with previous positions at Agfa and Ernest Green & Sons serving the offset, flexographic, wide format, and sign industries,” stated Mark Geeves, Color-Logic Sales and Marketing Director.

In related news, Color-Logic has now certified the Xeikon X-800 Digital Front End for use with Color-Logic files. “Color-Logic technicians have tested the Xeikon X-800 Version 3.5 DFE on the Xeikon 3000 Series presses for compatibility with Color-logic files,” stated Geeves. “Xeikon users can be assured that Xeikon printers with this configuration will accurately process Color-Logic files and produce striking images on metallic foils and similar substrates, and eliminate having to create white ink masks, and take advantage of variable text in metallic.”
