Alex Stepanian becomes Regional Sales Director, a newly created position, for KBA North America. Stepanian, whose sales career spans more than 34 years in the printing industry, joins KBA after serving as a district sales manager with three other printing press manufacturers.
Stepanian graduated from Baruch College in New York City with a bachelor's degree in business, specializing in marketing management.
“Alex is a talented and seasoned sales professional with a very strong track record for delivering superb customer results,” said Soren Larsen, Senior VP of Sheetfed Sales at KBA North America. “He will be an excellent addition to our leadership team providing inspiration and ongoing contributions.
KBA North America, located in Dallas, Texas, is a member of the KBA Group. Established almost 200 years ago in Wuerzburg, Germany, Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA) is the oldest and second largest press manufacturer worldwide.
Barker, who has more than 28 years of outside sales experience in the plastics, printing and packaging markets, has spent the past 10 years in the printed pressure sensitive label market. Prior to that, he gained experience in the Injection and Blow Moulding industry with Reliance Products in Winnipeg and spent another 14 years in plastics conversion and polypropylene manufacturing with Transilwrap Canada and AET Films U.S., respectively. He will be responsible for growing Drytac Canada’s custom coating business in the Industrial, Packaging, Automotive, Label, and Building material markets.
Brad Haupt will serve as Midwest Regional Sales Manager for Drytac Corp. in the United States. Haupt, who joins Drytac from GBC, has a sales career that spans more than 30 years in print finishing equipment and supplies. For approximately 20 years, he focused on the wide-format market and was selected to start a new Digital Print Finishing division as part of the GBC sales management team.
The PPF Sector Working Group is composed of industry experts, non-profit organizations and academic/research institutions. Lifshitz will co-lead the working group as it examines sustainability issues – environmental, social, and economic – for several forestry products, including lumber, engineered wood products, books, facial tissue and greeting cards.
“It’s a great honor to be appointed Co-Chair of this valuable working group for The Sustainability Consortium,” said Lifshitz. “APP was one of the first major pulp and paper companies to implement a comprehensive Zero Deforestation supply chain policy and so we are uniquely positioned to provide insights in this area.”
With products distributed in more than 120 countries, APP has an annual combined pulp, paper, packaging product and converting capacity of over 19 million tons.
The Sustainability Consortium, jointly administered by Arizona State University and the University of Arkansas, is comprised of more than 100 members, including manufacturers, retailers, NGOs, civil society and corporations that work collaboratively on supply networks. It also has operations at Wageningen UR in the Netherlands and Nanjing University in China.
Alden joins Avanti after 17 years at Xerox, where he led regional sales of the company’s production presses, including the flagship iGen line, and Xerox FreeFlow software.
“I’ve been working with the Avanti team for years thanks to Avanti’s tight integration with Xerox’s FreeFlow digital workflow collection,” said Alden. “I’m excited to now be leading the sales team and working with our partners to drive Avanti Slingshot’s market growth.”
Brown most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of HP’s integrated workflow software unit. “Allan brings 25 years of experience in the print industry including software engineering and executive positions at Hewlett Packard and Xerox,” said Eric-Yves Mahe, Kodak’s President of Software and Solutions. “Allan’s extensive software experience in product development and operational excellence will be a great asset as we continue to strengthen our software business.”
Brown holds an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester, an M.S. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Tuskegee University.
Simpson Print is a unique 50,000-square-foot facility providing clients with screen, UV-offset and digital printing services. The company’s products range from decals and large-format display signage for retailers, to books, posters, brochures and stationery. By integrating screen, lithographic and digital technologies, Simpson describes itself as specializing in “hi-tech/hi-touch” projects to produce print work for a sensory experience.
“Simpson has always been a great company,” said Denison. “We are going to take it to new levels as the printing business evolves and creates exciting new opportunities.”
Martin Johanns remains owner and Chair of Simpson Print, the company he bought in 1987. Johanns explained that he expected Denison would some day lead the company when Simpson acquired Denison Print of Breslau, Ontario, in January 2014. Denison’s 27-year career in the printing industry began when he opened a quick-printing shop in nearby Kitchener.
“Tony’s enthusiastic leadership suits the way Simpson does business, which is to deliver outstanding work on time, even with the most challenging jobs,” said Johanns. “I am confident he will continue to bring innovation into the company, and build on the relationships we have established with clients across North America.”

At drupa 2008, HP introduced its first Inkjet Web Press, which since expanded into a portfolio of 10 presses across five web-width platforms. HP recently reported that its T200, T300 and T400 series customers have printed more than 90 billion A4 equivalent pages since 2009.
After serving eight years as the lead of HP’s IHPS division, Maruggi is to become Vice President and General Manager of HP’s new Office and Versatility division, which encompasses the entire scope of HP’s office and home inkjet business, including the company’s page-wide-array technology.
Wiesner started with HP in 1984 in the San Francisco Bay area. In various R&D and manufacturing management roles, Wiesner brought multiple inkjet products to market in the office, large-format graphics and web-press spaces. As director of R&D for Media Supplies and Solutions, his team developed media coatings and vertical software solutions for HP Wall Art, Greeting and Gift Cards, and Ink Content Value Packs.
Wiesner later became Director of R&D for Printing & Technology Platforms, focused on developing ink chemistry, materials and software solutions for HP Printing and Personal Systems’ 2D and 3D printing business units.
With more than 30 years of experience working with emerging technologies, business development opportunities and start-up organizations, Littrell has been primarily focused in the printing industry. He is known for his innovative marketing programs in terms of developing strategy, creation, launch and support.
Littrell began his career in applications engineering and product management roles for printing-industry suppliers like Agfa, Information International and Scitex. He is a serial entrepreneur as founder of a regional digital services company called Graphics Xpress, an integrated marketing company called Magicomm LLC, and an international consulting and marketing-services firm called Littrell Associates. He has also worked with communications service providers like General Motors Photographic, Magna Graphic and, more recently, Winbrook Inc.
Littrell has also served as Vice President of Communications and, most recently, as President of the Boston chapter of the American Marketing Association. He has been active in volunteer roles as Vice President, Board of Directors, of the ARC of Greater Haverhill & Newburyport, the world's largest community-based organization of and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, while also chairing the Personnel Committee for the town of Groveland, MA.
“I look forward to working with my friends and colleagues, helping them grow professionally, while assisting companies build an internal talent base that will propel them into a bright future,” said Littrell. “At this stage in my career, it is my way of paying it forward.”
Littrell will be responsible for managing direct-hire services for both Semper's traditional print and graphic arts areas, as well as Semper’s recently introduced TechCreatives initiative that focuses on the intersection of creativity and technology. Littrell was a consultant in the development of Semper’s TechCreative strategic planning.
Bryan Hall becomes Vice President, Western Canada, for Treck Hall Wide Format. He has spent more than 20 years in the wide-format sector. This includes time spent with Treck Hall Limited, Mondrian Hall and most recently Fujifilm.
Treck Hall, with warehousing in Toronto and Vancouver, distributes wide-format product brands like Ritrama, Kodak, Epson and Magic. This includes supplies for printing processes like UV, Solvent, Latex and aqueous inkjet systems.
Bryan Hall will be responsible for growing Treck Hall’s Wide format media business in Western Canada.
Having previously worked as both a supplier rep and printing-company owner in the inkjet arena, Donais brings a wealth of experience to his new position covering the provinces of Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
Donais most recently served as Vice President of Cameron Advertising’s digital division, where he worked from 2010 until January 2015. Donais also previously worked for almost five years as the Managing Director of Schawk Canada’s digital division. He also owned and operated iG3 for a decade.
Chris Raney becomes President of Baumer hhs in Dayton, Ohio, which manufacturers systems for value-added-gluing, camera-verification and quality-assurance systems for a range of industrial sectors like corrugated packaging, folding carton, printing and woodworking.
In addition, Baumer hhs also welcomed Rob Bradshaw to its sales team. Bradshaw will be based in Illinois as the Midwest Sales Manager and will lead the region's sales efforts.
Raney, who most recently served as VP of Packaging for Heidelberg USA Inc., brings over 25 years of relevant industry experience to his new role as President of Baumer hhs. This includes more than 10 years in the folding carton market in North America. He worked for Bobst in various roles in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and in the United States where from June 2002 he was Vice President of the Folding Carton Business Area.
“We welcome Chris’ experience and leadership to the Baumer hhs team,” said Detlef Engling, Managing Director. “In his new role as President, he will provide leadership and guidance to our team. His results-oriented approach and ability to think strategically will help hhs continue to grow profitably, while extending our track record of innovation and exceeding our customers’ demands.”
Brian Gibson has joined Drytac Canada, a manufacturer of adhesive-coated products, in the role of Technical Services Manager. He holds a degree in marketing and sales from Humber College and has more than 25 years of experience in the printing industry.
“Brian excels in technical troubleshooting,” said Mike Wildbore, Vice President of Sales for Drytac Canada. “He will be an excellent resource for our Canadian team, especially with his extensive industry knowledge and background in equipment repair and finishing processes.”
As Technical Services Manager, Gibson will be responsible for technical support and training of Drytac’s line of finishing equipment. Prior to joining Drytac, Gibson worked for Seal as a technical service and application specialist. His industry knowledge spans areas like application training, equipment service support, product management, account management, and sales-force development.
Dr. Doug Edwards becomes Chief Executive Officer of Xaar plc, headquartered in Cambridge, UK, succeeding Ian Dinwoodie, who previously announced plans to retire in 2015. Dinwoodie joined Xaar in 2001 and had served as CEO since 2003.
Xaar primarily develops and manufacturers piezoelectric inkjet print-heads, including technology for applications like ceramic tile decoration, coding, graphics, labeling and packaging.
In March 2014, when Dinwoodie announced his upcoming retirement, Xaar launched its new 1002 GS6 print-head, building from the existing 1001 GS6 product, for UV applications, primarily aimed at the production of labels, laminates, direct-to-shape, packaging and other types of product decoration.
Xaar states the 1002 GS6 print-head (featuring 1,000 nozzles) is designed to jet high-opacity white inks, as well as high-viscosity varnishes, which is enabled by Xaar’s patented TF Technology for ink recirculation and the Hybrid Side-Shooter architecture.
Edwards joins Xaar from Eastman Kodak Company, where most recently he served as President, Digital Printing and Enterprise. He has been a member of Kodak’s Executive Board since 2006. Edwards started his career in the UK in a variety of technical roles with Ilford Limited, ICI, Zeneca and International Paper before moving to the United States 14 years ago with Kodak Polychrome Graphics (a former joint venture company between Sun Chemical Corporation and Kodak).
“It is a privilege to be asked to lead Xaar through this next phase of the company's development,” said Edwards, who holds a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD in Conducting Organic Materials from London University. “Excellent progress has been made by the company over the last decade but the future opportunities ahead of the company in the world of digital printing are substantial, and I am pleased to return to the UK to take up this challenge.”
Serge Trajkovich becomes Vice President and Managing Director of PrintLink Canada, which focuses on human resources and professional placement within the printing and packaging industries.
Trajkovich has 35 years of experience in the printing industry, including time within pre-media, digital printing and packaging sectors across North America. He has both owned and managed several companies in the Toronto area. His work in packaging covers folding-carton, converting, and flexible processes.
PrintLink operates in both the United States and Canada, specializing in all facets of printing and related industries. This includes providing employers with mentoring, market intelligence and human resource processes.
Al Varney has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Xerox Canada Ltd., succeeding Mandy Shapansky who plans to retire on January 1, 2015.
Varney, a former Vice President of Marketing for Xerox Canada, will lead the Canadian organization after spending the past five years in the United States, where he served as President of Xerox North American Agent Operations and, prior to that, as a Senior Vice President for U.S. Client Operations.
Varney first joined Xerox Canada in 1986 where he has held various positions in sales, marketing and general management. “Xerox is such a well-respected brand in Canada, offering market-leading business processes services and document management technology,” Varney said. “I am excited to be back in Canada to continue Xerox’s growth in the market by working with clients on solutions that support them reaching their own business growth goals.”
Shapansky spent nearly three decades with Xerox Canada, and served as CEO for the past four years. Xerox Canada is headquartered in Toronto.
