Hadi Mahabadi, former Director of the Xerox Research Centre of Canada in Mississauga, Ontario, becomes a member of the Order of Canada for his innovations in polymer science and commitment to promoting scientific development in Canada.
Mahabadi became the Director of the Xerox Research Centre of Canada (XRCC) in 2004, leading what is arguably the country’s top materials R&D facility until his retirement in September 2011.
Just prior to his stepping down, XRCC in April 2011 reached a massive milestone by developing its 1,500th United States patent. Mahabadi himself generated 86 materials-science patents for Xerox over his 30-plus-year career at the company.
Soon after his retirement from Xerox, Mahabadi founded CanWin Consulting Inc. to provide a range of research services for the development and commercialization of Canadian technology. He is currently President and CEO of CanWin.
Mahabadi has always been very active in promoting scientific development in the country. He continues to sit on numerous boards and committees with organizations like Ontario Centre of Excellence, McMaster Innovation Park, HY-Power Nano, Board of Governance at Ontario College of Arts and Design, Plastic Electronics, Faculty of Applied Sciences at Simon Fraser University, and McGill University.
Established in 1967 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Order of Canada is seen as one of the country’s highest civilian honours. The designation recognizes a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to Canada.
