Mutoh has introduced its new VJ-1638UR 64-inch-wide UV-LED inkjet printer for the commercial print, and sign and display markets. Prior to the official launch from Japan, the VJ-1638UR was exhibited at the ISA (International Sign Association) Sign Expo 2018, held March 22 to 24.

Mutoh says the VJ-1638UR is specifically developed for roll-to-roll printing at an affordable price “with the quality and performance of Mutoh’s current UV-LED printers.” Its staggered dual printhead design and dual UV lamps on the both sides of the printheads, described as providing high productivity while offering UV ink that is VOC-free, low-energy consumption and odourless curing. Also, Mutoh’s Cool Technology reduces working temperature, allowing printing on heat-sensitive media, explains the company, while varnish ink provides spot varnish and multi-layer printing.

The printer comes standard with an automatic media registration pin system and a vacuum table with a Blow-Back feature for easy handling and positioning of heavy media, Mutoh says. The vacuum table is divided into four zones, fixing various media sizes and improving work efficiency. Other features include intelligent interweave print technology (i-Weave UV) for high print quality, standard automatic sheet-off function, replaceable cleaning wiper, ink mist control for stable print operation, six-colour Mutoh UV-LED ink (KCMY + white + varnish), and a new five-colour mode setting on KCMY + Varnish.
