nexGen Grafix installs Canada’s first HP Indigo 12000HD

Edmonton, Alberta-based commercial printer nexGen Grafix is celebrating its 40th year in business with the acquisition of Canada’s first HP Indigo 12000HD B2-format digital colour press.

The HD Imaging System is described as delivering 30-percent smaller ink dots, allowing for smaller and more uniform dot placement, with a virtual resolution of 4,876 dpi, providing higher line screens, including FM screening, HP explains.

This will be the first B2 format digital press in Western Canada, giving nexGen Grafix the capability to produce digital-offset printing on sheet sizes up to 20 x 29 inches.

Highlights of the HP Indigo 12000HD include: 7-colour press, with white, clear, fluorescents and Pantone colours; ability to print on various substrates such as synthetics, canvas and metallized; and HP SmartStream Mosaic & Collage software for customized variable printing.

“For the past number of years, the trend in run length has been downward and high-speed offset equipment is not best suited for those types of projects,” says Henk DeJong, President of nexGen Grafix. “The Indigo 12000HD will accommodate those jobs more economically and with better turnaround times, while at the same time creating additional offset capacity. Having investigated other options in the B2 digital arena, the HP Indigo 12000HD, with its very significant world-wide installation base, superb quality, and upgradable platform soon came out as the only right choice.”

Along with the recent installation of extra bindery equipment, the acquisition of the HP Indigo 12000HD is intended to better position the company for its next 40 years of business.
