PDI Completes NexPress SX3300 Installation

April 16, 2013  By

Phipps Dickson Integria, with an investment of around $800,000, has added a new Kodak NexPress SX3300, with dimensional and metallic printing capabilities, to its production floor in Kirkland, Quebec.

The NexPress SX3300 installation by Phipps Dickson Integria (PDI) represents the first such press to be brought into Eastern Canada. “PDI can now offer revolutionary applications that can be used on various substrates – whether coated or uncoated, smooth or textured, from light text and all the way up to an 18-point thickness,” stated Gaetano Di Trapani, Chief Operating Officer at PDI.

PDI’s new NexPress includes Kodak’s recently introduced optional feature to run a 26-inch-long cut sheet which allows the press to work with 30 percent more printing surface. The NexPress SX3300 also allows PDI to apply Red, Green or Blue toner in a fifth imaging unit, which helps in reaching brand-related spot and Pantone colours. A high-gloss coating, which PDI describes as simulating a UV gloss varnish, can also be applied by the new press.

The Quebec-based printing company also trumpets the fifth imaging unit’s ability to provide a dimensional varnish, which can be applied inline on a selective basis with variable heights. The result, according to PDI, is an image with an impression that the surface has been embossed. The NexPress SX3300’s fifth imaging can also print a gold or pearlescent effect, as well as a red fluorescing dry ink for security or novelty applications.

“PDI has published a sample reproduction guide entitled A new measure of INNOVATION which illustrates the creative applications that are now available to both the design and graphic arts communities,” stated Jamie Barbieri, President of PDI. “From the enthusiastic feedback we’ve received so far, we know that these cutting-edge innovations will continue to assure PDI’s position as an industry leader.”

Recognized as one of Quebec’s largest, independent commercial printing companies, PDI describes itself as a complete Integrated Print Solutions provider, with pre-media, sheetfed offset and toner production, Web-to-print, as well as fulfillment, warehousing and direct-mail services.
