PP Print & Digital Services of Port Perry, Ontario, has added a Presstek 34DI press to its production floor. The company was founded 38 years ago by Henry Janssen and today is owned by his son, Tony Janssen.
The certified pre-owned Presstek machine replaces an older Heidelberg 19×25 four-colour press and will operate alongside two 11×17 2-colour presses, a Xerox and two Konica digital toner-based printers, and a Roland 540B 4-colour conventional offset press. The 34DI press supports FM screening and 300-lpi printing and runs at up to 7,000 sheets per hour.
“We had an old Heidelberg 19×25 four-colour press that needed to be rebuilt,” said Tony Janssen. “Thats what started us looking for a new solution. We needed a press that could cost effectively address the larger number of smaller runs that were coming in the door. We also wanted to use this acquisition to reduce our environmental footprint.”
“PP Print & Digital Services had already made great progress transitioning its business to meet the needs of today’s market realities,” said Joe Demharter, Presstek’s Vice President of Sales. “The company is producing everything from short-run digital printing to large-format sign making. Now, with its Presstek 34DI, PP Print has been able to improve throughput and quality, reduce costs and acquire new customers.”
“With our previous process, setup time was astronomical, taking about an hour to makeready on a job and allowing us to get four to five small jobs out per day,” said Janssen. “With the Presstek 34DI, setup time is 10 minutes, and we can get those four to five jobs out in two to 2.5 hours.”
