Quad/Graphics Buys Dallas-based Williamson Printing

February 7, 2012  By

Quad/Graphics has purchased Dallas-based Williamson Printing Corporation for an undisclosed sum. Williamson is one of the largest commercial printers in Texas. The company will operate under the QuadWilliamson brand and headed by Jesse Williamson, President of Williamson Printing.

“Williamson is an exceptional printing company with a long list of regional and national clients,” said Joel Quadracci, Chairman, President & CEO of Quad/Graphics. “It has a superior reputation for quality, service and innovation, and its experience and success in growing its commercial and specialty printing business will complement our own growth plans for that segment.”
In 1968, Bowen Williamson bought a relatively small printing company that had sales of $600,000 and 45 employees. Today the company has more than 400 employees generating over US$100 million in sales. The company itself has roots spanning back to 1884 when the Dorsey brothers opened a printing company and office supply store, styled as the “Business Man’s Department Store.” Tough times in the first half of the 20th century eventually caused the company to split into its office supply and printing segments in 1968. The name was changed to reflect the new owner in 1970.
Williamson’s two Dallas facilities will join Quad/Graphics’ Commercial and Specialty group, which also operates facilities in Burlington, Menomonee Falls and New Berlin, Wisconsin; Enfield, Connecticut; and Leominster, Massachusetts.
“We’re both innovative printers at heart,” said Jesse Williamson on behalf of his brother Jerry, Chairman and CEO of Williamson Printing. “We’re passionate about print’s crucial role in today’s multimedia landscape. The combined QuadWilliamson brand will create more value and more solutions for more clients.”
