Edge Imaging of Burlington, Ontario, added an MGI Meteor DP8700 S press to its plant floor, joining the company’s existing Meteor DP60 Pro press used to produce various print applications for Canadian schools.
Purchased through KBR Graphics, MGI’s distribution partner for Eastern Canada, Edge Imaging’s new Meteor DP8700 S dry toner press reaches a top speed of 4,260 letter-size (A4) pages per hour. The Meteor DP8700 installation actually began back in May 2012, just as the press was debuting in Germany at the drupa tradeshow, which makes it the first such press placed into a North American operation.
The new Meteor was purchased to complement Edge Imaging’s Meteor DP60 Pro, effectively doubling the operation’s total production capacity. Edge Imaging had also previously installed MGI’s UVarnish offline UV coater and two PunchCard Pro credit card (CR-80) format die cutters.
Edge Imaging describes itself as the fastest growing school photographer in North America. The company reports that it produces over 1-million student-identification cards, one of its key applications, every year between the months of August and December. Edge Imaging produces various school applications such as student planners, which have in the past included personalized covers on a synthetic substrate, printed by the Meteor DP60.
“The Meteor DP8700 S has been a great addition to our workflow and was a workhorse during the height of our production schedule,” said James Dunning, Production Lab Manager at Edge Imaging. “Not only is the print quality outstanding, the increased production capacity the Meteor DP8700 S affords has enabled us to keep all our work in-house for the first time.”
Edge Imaging was named by Burlington’s Chamber of Commerce as its 2009 Business of the Year.
