Sharma Steps Down as GCM Chair

December 8, 2009  By Jon Robinson

SharmaDr. Abhay Sharma suddenly resigned as the Chair of Ryerson’s Graphic Communications Management program last week, as Canada’s only degree-level printing program begins to search for a new leader for the next school year.

Neither Sharma nor Daniel Doz, Dean of the university’s Faculty of Communication & Design, into which the Graphic Communications Management (GCM) program fits, would comment on the reasoning behind the resignation. Sharma is staying on with the program for the foreseeable future, as a full-time faculty memeber, but he will concentrate on teaching and meeting his research obligations.

Doz, who soon plans to name an interim Chair to oversee the program for the remainder of this school year, stated it was Sharma’s decision to step down as Chair. Sharma joined the GCM program at the beginning of its 2005 school year, for a 5-year term.
