Simon Fraser Buys HP Indigo 7500

August 28, 2012  By

The in-house print facility of Simon Fraser University, called Document Solutions, installed an HP Indigo 7500 press, rated for a monthly production of up to 3.5-million colour pages or 6.5-million monochrome pages.

The Simon Fraser University (SFU) print facility, referred to on campus as Docsol, is described as the main source for marketing collateral and printed materials for faculty, admissions and student services – covering a wide range of printing applications.

“We were looking for new technology that would help us lower our operating costs, while providing us with the colour, quality and consistency that is important for our customers,” said Lilian Ding, SFU.

The HP Indigo 7500 is available with up to seven ink stations, allowing for 4-, 6-, and 7-colour PANTONE emulation, and off-press mixing. The press matches up to 97 percent of PANTONE colours. “Customers are more confident that Docsol can meet colour expectations,” said Ding, who also reports an increase in project volumes because of the print shop’s new versatility supplied by the HP Indigo press.

While Ding points to the HP Indigo’s colour abilities, the print operation continues to produce numerous black-and-white applications. “Printed books and course materials are key products for the education market and we need to have the ability to produce these quickly and affordably,” said Ding. “With the Indigo we’re able to print what we need, when we need it, eliminating waste. This is great, especially when printing academic materials, which have different volume and format requirements.”

The HP Indigo 7500 can print up to 120 A4 pages per minute in full colour or 240 pages per minute in either monochrome or two colours.
