Sina boosts production with Speedmaster CX 102

January 31, 2012  By PrintAction Staff

Sina Printing has installed Ontario’s first Speedmaster CX 102 6+L press, which joins three other 40-inch Heidelberg presses, in the company’s new 60,000-square-foot facility in Markham, Ontario.

Oscar and Fara Meshkati founded the Toronto-area printing company, which provides services to the trade, 14 years ago with a 2-colour press. This January, Sina Printing, now led by Oscar’s son and company President, Mike Meshkati, began moving their equipment into a new 60,000-square-foot plant – a 40 percent growth in space when compared to the previous location.

The centerpiece of the new plant is the 40-inch Speedmaster CX 102 6+L press, which joins two 40-inch Heidelberg CD 102s, both with a 6-colour plus coater configuration; a 10-colour Heidelberg SM 102, with roll-to-sheet capabilities; and a 14 x 20-inch, 6-colour Heidelberg SM52 plus coater. Sina’s new CX 102 reaches a maximum speed of 16,500 sheets per hour and features several technologies first introduced on the XL 105 platform, such as Preset Plus Feeder and Delivery, Intellistart, and the XL 105 gripper and transfer system.

“The presetting capabilities of this press are really impressive,” said Mike Meshkati. “We haven’t had it long enough to have an exact figure on increased performance, but we expect it to be significant. And when we need speed, it is effortless.”

The automation of Heidelberg’s newest CX press architecture fits Sina Printing’s growing attention to lean manufacturing. The company reports to process over 750 orders per day through its plant. “We also offer a large spectrum of print solutions from offset to digital to wide format, and with our equipment line-up we are able to produce both short and longer run materials for our customers,” said Meshkati.

In addition to its offset technology, Sina runs two 6-colour HP Indigo 5500 presses and a full bindery department, including: two Polar 115ED cutters, a Polar 137XT cutter, an 8-station Heidelberg Stitchmaster, two Heidelberg Stahlfolders B30, one Stahlfolder B20, and a Duplo 500 system, as well as UV coating and lamination equipment.

“We also have to be very competitive,” said Meshkati, “but our customer’s value consistency in delivering whatever is important to them. Anyone can deliver once, but trust comes over time.”
