Wholesale Pocket Folders installs Scodix Ultra 101

September 10, 2020  By PrintAction Staff

APD Printing general manager Luis Perez and company president Gregory Perez proudly display their new Scodix Ultra 101 digital enhancement press.

Wholesale Pocket Folders & Trade Only Folders (WPF), a subsidiary of APD Printing, has installed a new Scodix Ultra 101 digital enhancement press to help support the company’s finishing capabilities in the production of food labels and product shelf packaging, saddle stitched and perfect bound promotion materials and literature, as well as various other printed products.

The Scodix Ultra 101 is a digital enhancement press designed for commercial offset and HP Indigo presses. The press also supports up to six different Scodix applications, including variable data, foiling, Scodix Metallic, Scodix Cast&Cure, Scodix Glitter and Scodix Sense raised print enhancements.

Brantford, Ont.-based APD Printing was founded in 2001 by the father and son team of Gregory and Luis Perez. The company has built its reputation on delivering quality products to national and international graphic designers and outlet commercial printers, such as Minuteman Press and Kwik Copy, as well as small independent service providers and resellers. The new embellishment press will help enhance WPF’s finishing capabilities.

“We came to Canada with an extensive printing background. Traditionally, we have produced raised embossing effects by standard analog spot UV and foil stamping methods,” said Luis Perez, APD’s general manager. “We are constantly in search of improved workflow and output tools. Though we’ve only just installed the Scodix system, we’re already very comfortable with how much easier and production-friendly these enhancements now become.”

The company operates as Wholesale Pocket Folders in Canada and Trade Only Folders USA in the United States.

“It helps that clients have been pushing us in this direction, and then we saw Scodix at an industry trade show. We did our comparison shopping and it became obvious that it was the Scodix offering that best matched our production needs,” added Perez. “Being able to provide this type of in-house finishing allows us to shorten turnaround and offer so much more, in the way of capabilities. We recently applied some enhancements to our own advertising, as well as a few smaller jobs, and the feedback has been overwhelming. You simply can’t compare the reaction it generates with any other finishing techniques.”
