William Charles Printing installs five-colour Komori Lithrone G40

William Charles Printing, a third-generation full-service commercial printing company located in Long Island, N.Y., has purchased its first Komori press, a five-colour Lithrone G40 with coater (GL540C) to replace two competitive presses. After doing extensive research that included gaining advice from peer groups, the company says it chose the GL540C for its advanced technology.

“Our older presses were costing us so much money per month with the extra labor required and slower production capabilities, it started to make sense to look for a new press that provided the advanced capabilities we need to remain competitive,” said Chris Pellegrini, President of William Charles Printing. “This was a big decision for our company, so we did our due diligence, researching two of the top manufacturers in the market. In the end, our final decision came down to conversations with owners of other print companies who had experience with both manufacturers.”

Pellegrini says he has not been disappointed in his decision to go with Komori. Three months after the installation, the company has cut its makeready time in half and reduced staff in the pressroom from seven press operators to four, a result of GL540 press technology it explains, which includes console-driven makereadies powered by Komori’s KHS-AI, a software tool designed to enhance press throughput and waste reduction.

“There is no doubt the GL540C will keep us competitive, save us money and deliver the efficiencies we were looking for. We are also excited that it will open up new markets for us with its ability to print on thicker stocks and deliver high-quality color,” said Pellegrini. “If someone now comes to us and asks if they should buy a Komori, I would say yes. I’ve been very happy with my purchase.”
