Xerox has named Paul Smith to succeed Hadi Mahabdi as the head of the Xerox Research Centre of Canada. Mahabadi, who will retire in September, has served as the head of the XRCC since September, 2004 and will leave the role effective September 1st.
Smith, the current Associate Manager of the XRCC joined Xerox in 1995 and has held a number of management positions at the centre. He has lead teams that have developed key materials for Xerox, including solid ink components and new inks for Xerox Phaser printers.
“Paul brings a strong research career and
respected leadership ability to the Xerox Research Centre of Canada,
which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary and this year received
its 1500th patent,” said Sophie Vandebroek, Xerox’s Chief Technology Officer and President of the Xerox Innovation Group.
Smith received his doctorate in chemistry at the University of Bath and was a National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada fellow from 1995 to 1997. In 2001, he received a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. He holds 55 U.S. patents had has published 16 research articles.
Mahabadi, during his tenure at Xerox, has generated 86 patents in materials science. He has been with Xerox for over 30 years and has received the company’s prestigious President’s Award for his accomplishments. He has been repeatedly named top of PrintAction‘s Most Influential People in Graphic Communications. “It is difficult to say
goodbye to such an excellent researcher, leader, and friend,” said
Vandebroek. “Hadi’s significant accomplishments will continue to serve
us well for many years to come.”
