Scodix, a provider of digital UV coating technologies, showed off its new Scodix Ultra digital press at the PRINT 13 trade show this week. The machine is capable of 1,250 B2+ (21.5 x 31.0 inches) sheets per hour. The ultra lays down its gloss polymer at a resolution of 2,540×450 dpi.
The press features the following technologies:
– Scodix RSP Technology: Pin-point enhancement positioning and registration through the use of multiple CCD cameras
– Scodix 99 GU: Delivers the highest level of gloss units attainable for printed materials;
– Scodix Variable Density: Allows for variable polymer thickness – all in a single pass
The features allow for the machine to process 10,000 B2 sheets, 40,000 photobook covers, 80,000 greeting cards, or 480,000 business cards during an eight hour shift. The Scodix Ultra can process material weights from 6 to 30 points (135 to 675 gsm) and can print on materials as thick at 700 microns (0.7mm). The machine can lay down as much as 250 microns of material in Braille mode and can also operate two trays simultaneously.
Israel-based Scodix was founded in 2007 by veterans Kobi Bar and Eli Grinberg and presented its first offering of a UV digital enhancement press at IPEX 2010. The company then followed that up at drupa 2012 with the Scodix SENSE S presses in B2+ and B3+ sizes.
